My Story

Hi fabric lovers! My name is Christina.

I have been a crafter ever since I was little when I would create with my Mom. I've enjoyed all sorts of crafts from painting and stamp carving to scrapbooking and needle felting. I gravitated toward textile crafts though, I loved embroidery and cross stitch but quickly moved on to sewing cushions and plush dolls. For Christmas in 2015 I received my first sewing machine. It was a Brother XR3140 and it was so perfect! I started small and easy with simple tote bags, tissue holders and scarves. I really enjoyed my new machine and all the new possibilities it offered.

As most creative people are, I also am an introvert, but one of my dreams was to have a booth at a craft show. My mom and I would love to go to local craft shows and peruse the booths for unique and handmade items. I would look at the artists and think to myself how I would love to be in their shoes, displaying my work and having that freedom to be my own boss doing what I love.
-
I took the dive in 2016 and applied to my first craft show, and I got in! That's when my first business Stitch Happy was born. I was really nervous to put my work out on display, I put my heart and soul into these pieces and there was always that possibility of rejection and failure but it turned out to be one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I was completely hooked after that first show.

Over the next 4 years I regularly attended craft shows, practicing and learning to improve my work and display. I slowly increased the complexity of my offerings to include handbags, complex wallets and I even started using cork fabric and bag hardware. I absolutely LOVED doing craft shows. It gave me confidence, purpose and pride. It was especially awesome when people would come to check out my booth and they would already be carrying one of my bags!

I thoroughly enjoyed the connections I made with my fellow vendors and everyone who stopped by my booth to check out my work. My favorite thing was chatting it up about fabric. I loved talking about fabric more then I loved talking about bags! I always spent tons of time choosing the perfect fabrics that would catch my eye and put a smile on my face. I loved the challenge of creating complex bags that and I realized what I got truly excited about was the fabric and the process of sewing, not the bags themselves.
-
At this point I've amassed a large fabric stash that made me so happy. I was learning more sewing techniques and even started quilting! I discovered there were so many new ways to enjoy my fabric but I had very limited time due to the fact that I was still working a full time day job and spending most of my free time sewing bags for craft shows. So I decided to pause on craft shows and see where my sewing journey would take me next.

I enjoyed lots of 'selfish sewing' after I cleared my schedule of making inventory for craft shows, and it was awesome! I would sew just for fun, whatever came to mind, whether it had a purpose or not. I discovered quilting, fell in love with hand binding, honed in my fussy cutting skills, and made lots of fun new projects that I never had time for before. You can see all my 'just for fun' projects on my Instagram page.

Then I wondered.. what's next? I thought back to doing my first craft show. That had been a dream of mine for a long time, and I did it. So what other dreams did I have? And how could I make them a reality?

Owning my own fabric shop. A true blue, brick and mortar, local quilt shop. This is the beginning of that dream. Opening up this online fabric shop will be my first step to achieving my goal. There is a lot to figure out but I have lots of fun ideas to help make your sewing projects just a little more fun. That’s when Fabric POP was born. Fabric POP is an online fabric shop specializing in fun and quirky fabrics, fabrics perfect for fussy cutting, ribbons, charms and trims to add that extra POP to your projects and useful tips and tutorials. I am so excited to share my sewing knowledge and creativity with you.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read my story. I am going to work hard to make this a shop that can earn your loyalty and hopefully one day be able to open up a local quilt shop for creative people to learn, shop and connect.
